The awards were presented at the 43rd Pneumological Day, held in Sabadell, in the Vallès Occidental, from April 16 to 18. The winning project analyzes the clinical benefits of an oscillating positive expiratory pressure device in patients with bronchiectasis. A study led by the Bronchiectasis Unit of the Pneumology Department at the Hospital del Mar has won two awards at the Pneumological Day organized by the Societat Catalana de Pneumologia (SOCAP).

Sant Jordi, the day of the book and the rose, has once again left us with images that show how important this celebration is. Solidarity roses, heartfelt books, and the first edition of the Sant Jordi short story contest. The contest jury awarded the story Carmela by Centre Fòrum nurse Maria Ángeles Fernández Rivera as the best among the twenty texts submitted. In second place, Laia Cano Márquez, from the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, with the story Allò que no es veu, and in third place, Rut Fuentes Fernández, TCAI at Centre Dr. Emili Mira, with Sant Jordi in the kingdom of silence. The special prize for the stories with the most 'likes' on the intranet went to Isabel Márquez Romero, nurse at CAEM, for Allò que roman, and to Carmen Navarro Fernández, nurse at Centre Esperança, for Second chances.

On Wednesday, 15th April, a successful initiative to attract international postdoctoral talent to the Hospital del Mar Research Institute Barcelona (HMRIB) took place. The event, organized by Chris George and the Research Grants and Contracts Office (RGCO), was held online and saw 95 registered attendees from 61 different international institutes. The session began with a welcome address by Judit Cubedo, Managing Director of the Institute, followed by a presentation by Ismael Ávila, Head of Technology Transfer, who provided an overview of the HMRIB research environment and infrastructure. His talk highlighted the state-of-the-art facilities, the institute's translational capabilities, and the collaborative atmosphere within the PRBB research park.

On April 14th, we will begin the third term of talks within the "Projecte Salut i Ciència", an initiative carried out in collaboration with the libraries in the reference area of Hospital del Mar. The aim is to bring science and scientific advances closer to the public through direct contact with healthcare and research professionals. The talks will be announced progressively both through the libraries and our channels: the website of the "Projecte Salut i Ciència" and social media. We look forward to seeing you!

Hospital del Mar Research Institute is organising four visits to discover two of the projects funded by La Marató. Have you signed up yet? Hospital del Mar Research Institute is once again taking part in the initiative "Visita la recerca de La Marató", promoted by the Fundació La Marató de TV3, opening its doors and bringing biomedical research closer to the public in order to show the impact of the projects funded thanks to solidarity. In this edition, the institute is organising four guided visits between May and June, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The aim is to present two projects funded through the 2021 Mental Health La Marató and the 2022 Cardiovascular Health La Marató, focused on two major health challenges: suicide prevention and stroke.

Agustín Conesa Celdran, Sara Mederos and Sílvia Susín Calle have been selected in the 2025 edition of these grants. The award ceremony took place on March 17 at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. The "la Caixa" Foundation has awarded one hundred new doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships to outstanding researchers who will carry out their projects at research centres in Spain and Portugal, three of them to researchers at Hospital del Mar Research Institute. These are Agustín Conesa Celdran and Sílvia Susín Calle, who received the INPhINIT doctoral fellowship, and Sara Mederos, who received the Junior Leader postdoctoral fellowship. The aim of these grants is to retain and attract talent in order to promote excellence in research in these countries.

She did so at the Joint Commission for the Study of Addiction Problems, shared by the Senate and the Congress of Deputies. The appearance served to explain the activity of the Red de Investigación en Atención Primaria de Adicciones (RIAPAd), of which she is the coordinator. Dr. Torrens outlined the origin of the network in 2002, as well as its evolution to the current model, which she has coordinated since 2021. In this regard, she also sought to brief members of Congress and the Senate on the reality of addictions and of currently used substances, analyzing the objectives and the work of the clinical groups that make up RIAPAd.

On February 26 and 27, the III Meeting of the Scientific Committee of the CORDELIA project was held at the headquarters of the Fundació IMIM - Hospital del Mar Research Institute, at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). This collaborative initiative integrates 35 Spanish cohorts and brings together data from 197,000 participants, with an average follow-up of more than 15 years, and has already completed three years of development.

Dr. María Martínez, Head of the Neuro-oncology Section at Hospital del Mar and researcher at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, has been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM), following the vote held during the SEOM2025 congress. The vote served to partially renew the organisation's governing body, with the candidacy led by Dr. Antonio González, from the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, elected as the new vice-president of the Board.

For a project in the field of genomics of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The grant was awarded by the Spanish Group of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and presented during the congress of the Spanish Society of Hematology and Hemotherapy.
