Dr. Marta Torrens appears before the Senate

She did so at the Joint Commission for the Study of Addiction Problems, shared by the Senate and the Congress of Deputies. The appearance served to explain the activity of the Red de Investigación en Atención Primaria de Adicciones (RIAPAd), of which she is the coordinator.

The emeritus director of Addictions at the Mental Health Institute of Hospital del Mar and coordinator of the Addiction Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, Dr. Marta Torrens, appeared before the Joint Commission for the Study of Addiction Problems, in a session held at the Senate in Madrid on March 3. She did so as coordinator of the Red de Investigación en Atención Primaria de Adicciones (RIAPAd).

Dr. Torrens outlined the origin of the network in 2002, as well as its evolution to the current model, which she has coordinated since 2021. In this regard, she also sought to brief members of Congress and the Senate on the reality of addictions and of currently used substances, analyzing the objectives and the work of the clinical groups that make up RIAPAd.

At the same time, the appearance served to highlight the importance of continuing to support models such as that of the network, which is already present in ten autonomous communities. She also stressed the "need not only to maintain research in a changing field such as addictions, with the emergence of new substances, but also to strengthen it in order to face this challenge".
