In recent years, GREN has obtained a considerable number of human resources grants, which are essential for carrying out its research activity. Thus, during the 2022-2025 period, one ISCIII predoctoral student (PFIS), one HMRIB post-residency physician (Jordi Gras Grant), two ISCIII post-residency physicians (Río Hortega), and one AGAUR predoctoral student (FI-STEP) have joined the group. In addition, two group members have obtained ISCIII research intensification grants to increase their dedication to research. Also noteworthy are the three grants for research stays abroad awarded to group members, enabling them to undertake training periods at internationally renowned laboratories (University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, Canada; Hospices Civils de Lyon, France; Dr. Barbara T. Murphy, Division of Nephrology, Samuel Bronfman Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA).
In terms of training activities, over the last three years three doctoral theses have been defended, and seven master's theses (in immunology, translational medicine, and biomedicine) and sixteen bachelor's final projects (in medicine, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, and biomedicine) have been completed. Currently, four doctoral theses are underway and are expected to be completed between this year and the following three years.
In another area of the group's activity, it is important to highlight the essential role of the Research Support Unit, which is responsible for the execution and comprehensive monitoring of industry-sponsored clinical trials (phases IB to IV), as well as investigator-initiated trials conducted within GREN. This is a key activity for the development of the research group, with more than 25 active trials at present. This unit also provides support for the management of human samples required for studies conducted in the GREN laboratory.
