They are part of the first cohort of Young Ambassadors of the Spanish Society for Neuroscience (SENC), an initiative that recognises early-career neuroscientists who have already demonstrated outstanding international achievements.
Dr Sara Mederos and Dr Manuel Valero, coordinators of the Neural Computation Laboratory at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB), have been appointed as members of the first cohort of Young Ambassadors of the Spanish Society for Neuroscience (SENC). This distinction recognises outstanding early-career researchers in the field of neuroscience who have already demonstrated remarkable international achievements, scientific independence, and a strong commitment to strengthening the Spanish neuroscience community.

The selected ambassadors will serve as representatives of neuroscience research carried out in Spain, with the aim of inspiring ambition and excellence across the research community. The selection was based on scientific excellence, international profile, leadership and independence, as well as commitment to the values of the SENC.
The Young Ambassadors were selected by the SENC Young Researchers and Training Committee (SENC-J), together with members of the Society's Executive Committee. In addition to Sara Mederos and Manuel Valero, the first cohort includes Silvia De Santis, Cristina García, Juliana Martins da Rosa, Hernando Martínez and Maite Solas. Their appointment was announced during the FENS Forum 2026, held in Barcelona.
