HMRIB Hosts Successful Event to Attract International Postdoctoral Talent

On Wednesday, 15th April, a successful initiative to attract international postdoctoral talent to the Hospital del Mar Research Institute Barcelona (HMRIB) took place. The event, organized by Chris George and the Research Grants and Contracts Office (RGCO), was held online and saw 95 registered attendees from 61 different international institutes.

The session began with a welcome address by Judit Cubedo, Managing Director of the Institute, followed by a presentation by Ismael Ávila, Head of Technology Transfer, who provided an overview of the HMRIB research environment and infrastructure. His talk highlighted the state-of-the-art facilities, the institute's translational capabilities, and the collaborative atmosphere within the PRBB research park.

Attendees also heard from Sara Mederos, a postdoctoral researcher transitioning to independent research. She spoke highly of the institute's support services, the welcoming community of researchers, and the benefits of working in the vibrant, natural setting of the PRBB.

Chris George, Proposal Developer from the RGCO, discussed the national and international funding opportunities available to postdoctoral researchers. He shared practical advice on preparing Horizon Europe grant applications and outlined the comprehensive support services offered by the RGCO.

The session concluded with presentations from several principal investigators (PIs), who shared details about their research lines and open postdoctoral opportunities. The PIs included Arnau Busquets, Pablo Villoslada, Jana Selent, Joan Albanell, Toni Celià, Daniel Bergé, and Marta Lalinde, representing Joaquín Arribas' group.

To further support the event, a handbook was distributed to attendees, providing detailed information on the institute's research environment, profiles of its researchers, and available grants, all aimed at maximizing the impact of the session.

The event was a resounding success, showcasing the institute's strengths to a broad audience of potential international talent. A post-event survey revealed that 83% of respondents expressed interest or strong interest in pursuing a postdoctoral position at HMRIB.

We would like to thank everyone involved in organizing and supporting the event, and we look forward to welcoming new international talent to HMRIB in the near future.
